Training Skills for Occasional Trainers

This subject is available as a 1 day face-to-face course, or 2 hour virtual training course (plus 30 mins. 1:1 virtual coaching)

     Overview

The ability to develop team members and workplace colleagues is an essential skill for managers in the modern workplace. The Training Skills for Occasional Trainers course will provide managers, team leaders – or indeed anyone with an interest in developing others – with the skills, tools and confidence to successfully undertake this activity.

 

This course is offered on a stand-alone basis or it can be combined with the Coaching for Improved Performance course to provide a broader range of skills in developing others at work.

 

Course Objectives

By the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • understand how adults learn
  • recognise the most appropriate approach to meet identified training needs
  • prepare, deliver and evaluate a training session
  • apply key training principles to their own training sessions within their organisations

 

Course content

  • How People Learn
  • (‘Kolb Learning Cycle, Learning Styles’)
  • Planning Training (aims & objectives, interactivity, supporting resources, room layouts, logistics)
  • When to use various training methods (fishbowls, buzz groups, simulations, role play, coaching, peer group teaching etc.)
  • Evaluating Training (Kirkpatrick’s 4 stages; summative & formative assessment; transferring learning back to workplace)
