Overview

Recruiting the right candidates for the right job roles is the foundation for happier, motivated, and successful company.  On the other hand, a poorly managed and run recruitment process can create a negative perception of your company, and, at worst, can be challenged at an Employment Tribunal.
 
This course takes learners through the  whole of the recruitment process. It is designed to ensure the interviewer knows the type of candidate they are seeking, ask the right questions, understand employment law, and hire the best candidate.

 

This course is aimed at managers who are required to interview potential employees – or existing employees for promotion opportunities.

 

Course Objectives

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Identify key principles in preparing job descriptions, person specifications and job advertisements.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of current legislation underpinning the recruitment process
  • Understand and avoid the most common mistakes made by interviewers
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of behavioural interviewing techniques
  • Use a range of questioning techniques to probe candidates’ answers effectively
  • Plan, prepare and conduct effective selection interviews
  • Make an objective selection of the successful candidate against predetermined criteria

Course Content

  • Knowing the job to be filled and the skills, knowledge and attitude required from the successful candidate
  • Attracting the right candidates and the shortlisting process
  • Structuring the interview and questioning techniques (Open; Closed; Probing)
  • Employment legislation and its impact on recruitment interviewing
  • Avoiding common interview pitfalls (e.g. the ‘talkative candidate’, the ‘silent candidate’)
  • Assessing candidates answers and evidence gathering at interview (using the STAR technique).
  • Communicating with the successful (and unsuccessful candidates) following the interview
